Babysitting Activities

Babysitting is a big responsibility but that doesn't mean it can't also be fun.
Sometimes, the hardest thing about it is coming up with ideas of fun things to do.
There are lots of different activities that are just right for any age. Why not give these a try the next time you're babysitting and don't have a clue what to do?

Let us know which ones are your favorites and were the most fun for the children you babysat. And, if you have any other ideas for activities, please share them with us. Your ideas may end up posted on our website!

Tea Party (Toddler or Preschool)

TeaPartyMaterials Needed:

  • Blanket
  • Small non-breakable dishes, such as plates, cups and saucers
  • Dolls or stuffed animals
  • Dress up clothes and/or accessories

Procedure:

  1. This activity is especially fun for girls!
  2. Ask the toddler or preschool girl you are babysitting to invite others (her dolls or stuffed animals) to your tea party.
  3. If available, use other clothes and accessories to dress up - you, the child, and the other guests (dolls or stuffed animals).
  4. Place a blanket (the "table") on the floor.
  5. Help the child set the "table" with small dishes.  Be sure the dishes are not dishes that would break.
  6. Place the dolls (or stuffed animals) at the place settings on the blanket, making sure there is a setting for you and for the child.
  7. Pretend to drink tea and have a pretend conversation with the dolls and stuffed animals.
  8. Have fun!
