Safe Sitter® founder, Patricia A. Keener, M.D. has provided just that - an effective methodology and philosophy for teaching babysitting training to young adolescents.  She taught the first Safe Sitter® class in 1980, and since then Safe Sitter, Inc. has partnered with hundreds of organizations to teach young students across the country and around the world.   

Today, we pay homage with the Founder's Scholarship Fund, established in Dr. Keener's name as a tangible symbol of respect and appreciation for founding Safe Sitter, Inc.  This fund helps ensure Safe Sitter, Inc.'s commitment to being available and affordable to people of all income levels.  100% of donations help both Safe Sitter® Students and Safe Sitter® Teaching Sites that cannot afford the normal fees. 

Dr. Keener's vision continues to lead the organization through many important milestones.  Some key milestones have included:

• Incorporating Safe Sitter® as a not-for-profit organization
• Writing student and instructor manuals
• Training the first Safe Sitter® Instructors
• Training the first Safe Sitter® National Trainers to teach regional instructor workshops
• Garnering nationwide publicity, including appearances on "Good Morning America," "CBS This Morning," and "The Today Show," among others.

Dr. Keener's work with Safe Sitter, Inc. has been honored with many awards, including the American Academy of Pediatrics Ross Award for Lay Education as well as the Sagamore of the Wabash (Indiana's highest honor).  Dr. Keener remains involved with Safe Sitter, Inc. on many levels, including regular curriculum updates to ensure an innovative and medically accurate program.

More than $500 can provide exceptional support

We welcome donations by check. Please send your check and correspondence to our mailing address, along with the following information (we will not share your information with anyone without permission):

• Your name
• Your postal address
• Your email address
• Indication that you are donating to the Founder's Scholarship Fund
• The most appropriate way to address you (and if applicable, other contributors to your donation).  For example: Mr. Jon Smith or Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Smith.
