A lot of work went into preparing for the 2012 curriculum update. We reviewed the entire curriculum, including the 2010 American Heart Association (AHA) changes, and taught numerous pilot classes with the new revisions.
The new curriculum has a very updated, colorful,
and professional look. Instead of Student Manuals, the students
will have a bound book, called The Official Safe
Sitter® Babysitter's Handbook or the Handbook.
Students who used the new Handbook in pilot classes loved
it!
Although the Handbook looks very different from the Manual, much of the content will be familiar to you. Dr. Keener and our new Medical Director, Dr. Ross, worked to assure that the writing is clear and easy to understand. There are lots more colorful graphics. One change is the addition of advances in technology. Young adolescents didn't have their own cell phones or weren't using social media when the last revisions were made five years ago. For example, Safety for the Sitter has a new section called "Online Safety" with instructions for students not to take or send photos to their friends of the children they are babysitting for. CPR is updated to follow the newest American Heart Association guidelines.
Besides content changes, a new bingo game replaces the Magician's Hat Game. The content in the Handbook, games, and role-plays have all been simplified and are very "kid friendly"! Instructors who used the Handbook in pilot classes also loved it!
Teaching sites and Instructors can update when they are ready. We also have a new Instructor training DVD. As with our curriculum changes in previous years, you can determine your deadline for making the change to the The Official Safe Sitter® Babysitter's Handbook. You can use up any Manuals you have in stock and order the 2012 ones when you run out. When you're ready to switch to the 2012 curriculum, we'll help you make the process as easy as possible.
Safe Sitter® is committed to providing you a current and medically accurate curriculum.
