Thanks to her Safe Sitter® class, Danielle, 14, knew exactly what to do when facing an obstructed airway emergency, and did it calmly, quickly, and confidently.
Danielle was playing with other children from her neighborhood when she recognized the potential danger two of the children faced while they ran with lollipops in their mouths. Safe Sitter® training taught Danielle to prevent a possible life-threatening situation by telling the girls to stop running; however, they did not listen.
“I looked over at Kaylene and saw she was trying to cough something up, but wasn’t making any noise,” exclaimed Danielle. “I asked her if she was choking and she nodded her head. I did the Heimlich Maneuver three times and she coughed it out. She was fine.”
Safe Sitter® instructors teach their students how to recognize if someone is choking. Obviously, Danielle paid attention to this important lesson. “I wouldn’t have known what to do if not for Safe Sitter®. Everything I did, I learned at Safe Sitter®!”
